I'm currently going through the process of trying to self-publish my first novel and following the advice of David Gaughran. Mr. Gaughran has voluminous advice that can help newbies like me get their book into the hands of their target readers. Consuming this information is like drinking from a firehose. Mr. Gaughran warned me it would be a lot of work, and it most certainly is that.

So far I have read most of Starting from Zero, How to Format eBooks, How to Self-Publish a Book, and some of Let’s Get Digital.

In terms of actual steps toward publishing the book I have found three beta readers – these are people who will read the book carefully and critically.

Once I get comments back from all my beta readers, I will:

Select a copy editor.
Incorporate (or not) the suggestions of the beta readers.
Select a book cover designer
Put the finishing touches on my website and go live. This will no doubt be an iterative process.
